Barr-Nunn Transportation Continues to be a Driving Force Granger, IA – October XX, 2008 - Barr-Nunn Transportation “has grown from a small fleet of trucks serving the mid-Northwest and battled through tough economic times to become an industry stalwart,” according to an article published in the November issue of Pilot Challenge Magazine, the monthly publication for professional truck drivers. The article highlights the entrepreneurial courage of company founder Bob Sturgeon. It also brings to light the company’s humble beginnings as a fledgling company with a modest 10-truck fleet and it’s steady rise over the last 25 years to become an industry leader, with more than 600 trucks bearing the Barr-Nunn insignia. Sturgeon attributes the continual success and survival of the company to Barr-Nunn’s employees. Sturgeon believes that the employee’s involvement in the company’s daily operation gives them a sense of ownership. In addition to a waste-elimination program where employees initiate ideas to reduce expenditure, and an employee advisory council that provides input on policies and issues, Barr-Nunn has an open policy “where we share financial good times and bad with our employees and they are rewarded for our success,” states Sturgeon. “The attitude of our company is to involve employees.” Another key to Barr-Nunn’s success? It’s drivers. Barr-Nunn has a history of high hiring standards. “It’s one of the reasons why our safety record is so good,” explains Sturgeon.
