Beat the Heat and Get Fit at the Indoor HTAA Health Awareness Walk at GATS
DALLAS, Texas – Join the HTAA in its quest to improve health and wellness at the third HTAA Health Awareness Walk of 2010 at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 in the Dallas Convention Center during the Great American Trucking Show. The 1.5 mile fun, indoor and free walk will be another opportunity for drivers thinking about getting fit, wanting to stay healthy, or looking for tips to enhance their workouts to join the HTAA and their fellow drivers, in this walk led by national fitness celebrity, Bob Perry, “The Trucker Trainer,” and The Trucking Solutions Group Driver Health Council.
The average age of death for a truck driver is now less than 61 years of age, which is 16 years younger than the average American, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Healthy Trucking Association of America has taken on the noble mission of improving this alarming statistic by providing drivers, trucking fleets and trucking organizations with the resources they need to help our nation’s professional drivers get healthy and live longer lives. “The HTAA Health Awareness Walk provides drivers with the opportunity to demonstrate to their fellow drivers their commitment to good health and encourage others to get involved,” said Brett Blowers, Director of Marketing for the Healthy Trucking Association of America. “Our HTAA Walks are always outstanding events---everyone has a great time, and we prove to the trucking industry that trucking shows don’t have to be unhealthy events. With the help of our partners at Randall Reilly Events, we will continue to host the HTAA Health, Wellness & Safety Pavilion and invite everyone to come visit. We also encourage all GATS attendees to participate in the free HTAA Walk and join our nationwide efforts to create a Healthy Trucking Industry.” The HTAA Walk is sponsored by the following companies with special thanks to the planning team of Driver HEALTH magazine, Trucking Solutions Group Driver Health Council, Healthy Trucking Association of America, RAMP Media Group, Great American Trucking Show, Roadside Medical Clinic + Lab and Truckers News’ Fit for the Road. Additional sponsors include Airtab, Con-way Truckload, Crete Carrier, Freightliner, Knight Transportation, Marten Transport, Mondics Insurance Group, NFI Industries, Inc., Quality Carriers, Synergy and Triple Crown Services. About HTAA The Healthy Trucking Association of America was established as a result of alarming statistics concerning the unhealthiness of the professional truck driver population. Current statistics show that over-the-road professionals have an average life expectancy of less than 61 years and exhibit well above average occurrences of a wide variety of ailments and conditions, including high blood pressure, sleep apnea and obesity to name a few. The HTAA offers programs to improve the health of professional drivers and has quickly evolved into the leading authority on driver health and wellness issues. The mission of the Healthy Trucking Association of America is promoted via multiple lines of communication, including representation at all major transportation trade shows, their annual Healthy Trucking Summit, Healthy Trucking Brunches, an interactive website, a variety of digital media vehicles, a monthly newsletter, and the official monthly magazine of the HTAA, Driver HEALTH; which is the only magazine dedicated to the health and wellness of drivers.
