After high school David served in the Canadian and British Armies (the 48th Highlanders of Canada, 1st Royal Canadian Regiment and the Gordon Highlanders of Scotland). He was overseas until 1983 and upon his return returned to Canada he joined the Ontario Provincial Police serving the Beaverton, Iroquois Falls, and Muskoka Detachments. He was also a plain clothes Detective for four years before leaving the police force in 1997 to pursue other interests. David had obtained the rank of Senior Detective Constable. He is also an accomplished player and instructor of the Great Highland Bagpipe.

A year prior leaving the police force, David got involved with the trucking industry, obtained his ABZ Driver’s License and has driven for Muskoka Transport, Wayne Smith Transport and Gibson Transport in Alliston, Ontario. During his tenure with Gibson Transport, he transferred to their Safety & Compliance department with a main role as Recruiter for over two years. In April 2007, he was approached by The Rosedale Group and was offered a position as Recruiting Manager for North America and presently works from their Head Office in Mississauga. His responsibilities include recruiting and retaining drivers and warehouse associates in all eleven terminals throughout Canada and the United States.

His second greatest interest in the trucking industry is teaching how to do the job safely and legally. He is a part time Instructor and Driver Trainer at the Crossroads Truck Training Academy in Barrie, Ontario and an Instructor at the Ontario Safety League in Mississauga. He is also a writer for the Rear View Mirror newspaper and writes the column “The Eye of the Recruiter”. As David is a former OPP Detective and Tractor Trailer Driver he writes for the Women In Trucking Association providing tips and strategies in protecting themselves while on the road.

David has now started Carriers Coach Solutions which provides new driver and good truck training schools with information necessary for finding and securing a Carrier of their choice using their time more effectively upon receiving their new AZ license. He can be reached on his web site www.carrierscoach.com or carrierscoach@sympatico.ca
