The federal government's new proposed Comprehensive Safety Analysis of how it rates trucking companies and drivers is being delayed.
Dubbed CSA 2010, the new program is now going to be rolled out in phases, starting Nov. 1 and into next year. So the program effectively now becomes CSA 2011.

The trucking industry is shedding driving jobs and freight has been slowing down for the last year. Several companies are hiring again.Trucking school enrollment is up.
For the most part training is no longer optional. Most carriers now require first time drivers complete some type of training programs.
Training programs are available in every state. Programs can run from 100 hours for a few weeks of training to several hundred hours ranging over a few months and are available full-time or part-time nights or weekends. Cost can range from around $2000 to $10,000. Some companies are now using computer-controlled simulators to recreate real world driving conditions. These are called in cab simulators.
No state requires you to attend driver training school to test for a CDL. If you can find someone to teach you to drive and you can pass the test you get your CDL.
Are you interested in becoming a new truck driver and you want to learn more? Everyone has to start somewhere! Well, you're at the right place! Truck driving is an great career in my opinion. But it's not an easy one, but it's been an great 22 years for me. So for anyone considering a career in truck driving I've created this page to try to tell you a few of the important things you should know. First don't believe everything a recruiter tells you. The recruiters at these companies hire are very smart. They will promise you the world, you'll be home all the time, you'll have the best insurance, you can start out at $50,000 a year, etc. They spend millions of dollars yearly trying to a new truck driver in the door instead of spending the money to keep the drivers they already have. That should set off an alarm right of way. Trust me when I say there are lying. This is your life you're talking about. Learn everything you can before you invest your hard earned money and time and before you and your family take the plunge when you go to a truck driving school or get truck driver training from a carrier.
I agree with the last post. If you do not have any experience no one will hire you right now. It would be best to find a company to sign on with that will hire new drivers as a trainee and run team with them until you get some experience you can read more at http://www.smart-trucking-jobs.com/newtruckdriver.html
Beginning July 2010, the FMCSA will implement Comprehensive Safety Analysis or CSA - an initiative aimed at improving large truck and bus safety, and ultimately reducing commercial motor vehicle related crashes, injuries and fatalities.
CSA2010 will effect pay packages, hiring and firing, areas of employment screening and background checks, CDL certifications, in house training and more.
Here are a few things you can do now to help start preparing you for what is coming this summer.
1) Operate your truck legally, pay special attention to your hours of service.
2) Don't speed, tailgate, weave in and out of traffic or do anything else that would cause you to be singled out for a roadside inspection.
3) Do a good pre-trip inspection on your truck and trailer and record it in your logbook.
4) Remember whatever you do will now be reflected on your companies rating as well as yours.
AutoSock for Trucks, is a heavy-duty fabric covering that fits over the truck's drive wheels just like a sock. Tests have shown it takes only about five minutes to install the AutoSock .
Auto Sock for trucks is a fabric that slips over a vehicle's outer driving wheels, providing extra traction on snowy and icy roads. It also can be installed over the tire in much less time than traditional chains.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will give large trucks the option of using an alternate traction control device known as the Auto Sock(tm) this winter.
The Colorado Department of Transportation, USA, has granted its final approval for Auto Sock for Truck as an alternate traction device. Truck drivers in the Rocky mountains now have a quick and easy alternative to metal chains when driving on slippery roads.
Auto Sock is a new and innovative light weight fabric-based traction aid for cars and trucks that is easy to mount and provides a satisfactory grip on slippery surfaces as snow and ice.
Auto Sock, a high-technology textile tire covering, utilizes GripTech® technology. Specially patterned fibers optimize grip on slick surfaces by managing the thin layer of water on top of ice and snow. Through its weaving pattern and thousands of small fibers.
Known as the “Auto Sock for Trucks,” the device is a heavy-duty fabric covering that fits over the truck's drive wheels just like a sock. Tests have shown it takes only about five minutes to install the Auto Sock on four wheels, compared to up to 45 minutes for tire chains.
Auto Sock clings to snow and ice, increasing vehicle traction, improving safety and adding to driver confidence.
Auto Sock works at speeds up to 30 mph on snow and ice.
Auto Sock is available in different sizes to fit most vehicles.
Auto Sock will greatly enhance traction on snowy or icy surfaces. It is recommended that Auto Sock be removed when the vehicle returns to roads where no snow or ice is present. Driving on dry or wet roads is not recommended as it increases fabric wear considerably. Simple to Install and Remove Even in Cold Weather. 175,000 Truck Drivers could lose there job starting in July, 2010.
Have you heard if CSA 2010? If not you will be hearing a lot about it beginning next month.
CSA 2010 could cost you thousands of dollars in fines and lost revenue due to "truck drivers" being declared “Unfit”. An estimated 175,000 truckers will lose their Jobs when CSA 2010 is implemented.
RIGHT NOW DATA ABOUT YOUR DRIVING Record is being recorded by D.O.T. for YOUR DRIVER SAFETY RATING when FMCSA's New CSA 2010 goes into effect.
Most motor carriers and drivers haven't heard of CSA 2010, yet it is quite massive in its scope, and represents a major change in the way the FMCSA audits companies.
Perhaps the most profound change, and how this affects individual drivers are going to be audited and each will be given a personal safety rating. This personal safety rating will determine weather or not the driver is considered eligible to continue driving or requires some sort of intervention.
For the first time, each commercial vehicle license holder (YOU!) will be assigned a ‘Safety Rating” YOUR safety rating will follow you regardless of the company you work for or contract with. YOUR activity on the highway, i.e. roadside inspection violations, accidents, tickets, even warning tickets will have a negative impact on your personal safety rating. YOU could be declared UNFIT and lose your ability to drive for a living as a result of a poor safety rating. Companies will HIRE and FIRE based on your safety rating. YOUR PAY could be affected as a result of a poor safety rating. Likewise, you could earn MORE with a favorable safety rating!!
Data used to calculate your safety rating comes from Roadside inspections, traffic violations (citations) and crash data. A new Driver safety rating will be determined EACH MONTH!
Under CSA 2010, all carriers--and eventually all drivers--with sufficient safety data available will receive a safety rating that is periodically updated. Currently, FMCSA is able to provide safety ratings for relatively few carriers and for no drivers. As described earlier, CSA 2010 will employ a progressive array of interventions that can be tailored to match the severity of the safety problems they are intended to correct.
CSA 2010 intends to use new data--such as information from police accident reports about driver-related factors contributing to a crash--and improve existing data sources--by, for example, using its database of licensed commercial drivers to identify all drivers with convictions for unsafe driving practices, as well as the carriers they work for--to enable a more precise assessment of safety problems.
What companies will hire felony truck drivers? Next to having a bad DAC Report what companies will hire felony drivers is the second most asked question I get. Apparently there is a large amount of felony truck drivers with past felonies who are looking for jobs. First off there is no website I can find that has a list of companies that hire felony drivers. It is going to take some work on your part.
Even with a felony you can apply with any company, and there is a chance you can get a trucking job. But there are a few things you need to know first. Some of these companies are willing to review applicants with felonies but not all.
Some companies will hire ex felons if the charges are at least 5 to 7 yrs old! But they wont touch anyone with a drug, sexual, or violent crime, misdemeanor or felony.
There are only 2 major criminal issues that will prevent, by law, you from becoming a truck driver:
1.Conviction of possession or distribution of an illegal drug
2.The use of criminal force such as with a gun or knife
If you are still interested in getting a job as a felony truck drivers it is possible but it will not be easy in this current economy. The reason? Since 9/11 things have changed in the trucking industry. And with this economy trucking companies can afford to be picky about who they hire due to a oversupply of truck drivers. In July '09, over 242,000 jobs were lost. With the estimated 6,800 trucking jobs lost in July, the trucking industry has lost 77,700 jobs since the end of 2008 – a decline of 5.8 percent. Job cuts since July 2008 – just before the current decline – total 128,100.
How many of you guys posting here actually do somehting about what you are complaining about?
Fred Schaffner from The American Driver.com says "Stand Up Speak Out Or Accept What Comes." In other word stand up for your rights or accept the consequences of doing nothing.
In this day and age you have to do something to supplemental your income to help protect you if your trucking company slows down any more. Or you are having a hard time finding a job. I found this website to be useful. http://www.smart-trucking-jobs.com/badeconomy.html

I would suggest to all drivers to get a copy of there DAC report just to see what is on there. You are entitled to a free copy of your DAC report once every 12 months. You can see what is on there an try to correct any errors on there. <a href="http://smart-trucking-jobs.com/dacreport.html">Click here to find out what a DAC report is and how to get yours free. And how to file a complaint for false or incorrect information on your DAC report.</a>.
