Truckdriver.com Since 1996

Dear {FName},

It's hard to believe, but next month at this time we'll be celebrating our eleventh year on the world wide web. A lot of trucks have passed over the bridge since we started, and a lot of things have changed. Who would have ever guessed that a TV show about a bunch of truck mechanics would become such a hit?

Who would have guessed that a bunch of truck mechanics would make a video for children?

Sheds Positive Light On Truckers, Trucking Industry

The trucking industry has always been known for its toughness; heavy loads, long hauls and late hours. Hardworking men and women fighting against the cold and rain and sleet for weeks at a time; safely delivering each and every load from point A to point B so they can head home for a few days, get a little rest and hit the road again.

A new DVD Video series, entitled I Wanna’ Be A Trucker, has recently been released by 4 State Trucks, home of ChromeShopMafia, to shed a positive new light on this tough industry. This fun and entertaining video, produced in association with Ramsey MediaWorks, is primarily intended to educate children and put the viewer in the driver’s seat in order to give them a better appreciation for what it takes to be a professional truck driver.

I Wanna’ Be A Trucker is a light-hearted, educational and enjoyable journey that puts you in the cab along with a veteran truck driver during a typical day on the road. You’ll begin the day with a pre-trip safety inspection and find out why it’s so important to check the oil, water, brakes, tires and lights before firing up your 400-horsepower diesel engine. You’ll climb underneath a big rig and see what it takes to make it go, and you’ll find out how to adjust the brakes so you can make it stop. Typical subjects like DOT regulations, bills of lading and log books are presented in manner which engages and enlightens children of all ages. You’ll find out how to drive, how to backup, how to turn, how to check air pressure in tires, even where you can get a good hamburger, hot fries and an ice cold soda.

The video talks not only about what a driver does all day and all night, but why he or she does it and how important professional truck drivers are to their families and especially how much they mean to this country. Carrier of the Month

Triple Crown Services

Triple Crown began operations as a bimodal transportation carrier in July, 1986, while a division of North American Van Lines, which was then owned by Norfolk Southern Corporation. Triple Crown’s initial shipments were automotive parts between manufacturing and assembly plants in Detroit and St. Louis.

Today, Triple Crown employs nearly 300 people at its Fort Wayne headquarters and at fourteen (14) terminals located throughout the eastern two-thirds of the US and in Toronto, Canada. Triple Crown transported over 300,000 truckloads of freight in 2006 and has plans for continuing market expansion.

Its bimodal transportation system is a hybrid technology utilizing unique RoadRailer® trailers to combine both over-the-road and on-the-rail transportation. Truckload freight is picked up from shippers and driven to a Triple Crown terminal where the trailers are set on railroad wheels, called bogies. The assembled train then travels to the destination terminal where the trailers are hooked to truck tractors to complete freight delivery.

Triple Crown Services Company was named the nation’s 2007 top Rail/Intermodal Transportation Service Provider in Logistics Management magazine’s 23rd annual “Quest for Quality” survey of transportation professionals. The distinction marks the sixth time in the past seven years that Triple Crown was voted the nation’s top provider in the Rail/Intermodal category.

The “Quest for Quality” survey is regarded as the transportation and logistics industry’s most important measure of customer satisfaction and performance excellence. Over 6,500 transportation experts participated in the 2007 voting.

The survey asked transportation professionals to rate carriers on five key criteria: On-time Performance, Value, Customer Service, Information Technology, and Equipment & Operations. Participants then ranked the importance of each, and a weighted score determined the final evaluation.

Logistics managers rated On-time Performance as the single most important factor, followed by Value, Customer Service, and Equipment & Operations. Triple Crown took top honors in all four of those categories. Triple Crown will be presented with the “Quest for Quality” award at the annual conference of Supply Chain Management Professionals to be held in Philadelphia in October.

Jim Newton, President of Triple Crown Services, stated, “We are very pleased to be honored with this prestigious award. To be recognized by the nation’s logistics professionals as the number one intermodal carrier is, by itself, a great distinction. Being so honored six of the past seven years is a reflection of the focus and dedication of our exceptional team of employees and independent drivers. Triple Crown’s mission is to provide the highest quality truckload service, and the 2007 ‘Quest for Quality’ award is affirmation that we are fulfilling our commitment.”

Based on the results of the TruckDriver.com Truckstop Debate Survey, an overwhelming majority (82%) of you would like to see a presidential candidate debate at a truckstop. We'd like to see one too!

It really would make for some interesting television.

Speaking of television, if you've been following the news recently, television, radio or otherwise, then you are aware that Don Imus may be returning to the airwaves later this year. While we can honestly say that we don't care much one way or the other, (we didn't listen to him before, it's not likely we'll start now) we know people who do. Imus is one of those celebrities people either like or hate. Which one are you?

Take the TruckDriver.com I Miss Don Survey.

We wanted to go with the Not Don Ho Survey, but then we found out that Don Ho died recently so it turned out not to be as funny as we first thought.

Until next time, keep on truckin' and please drive safely.
