Dear {FName},

It seems like all we hear lately is how things aren't going to get any better until the election is over. Personally, we think it is one of those self-fulfilling prophecies. Things aren't going to get any better until the election is over because everybody keeps saying things aren't going to get any better until the election is over.

So, all together now, say it slowly, say it loudly, say it clearly...things will get better before the election is over!

Now, all we have to do is believe it.

However, from the looks of the old mail bag that may be easier said than done.

Did The Essex just pop into your head?

Subject: fuel prices

I'm not looking for a job but I can tell you that the fuel prices are having an effect on our family. My husband is a trucker and a lease driver so he has to pay for his own fuel. There have been several weeks that he just breaks even. We have three kids in school and they haven't seen their dad since January because he can't afford to come home. You don't work, you don't get paid.

Thank you,

A trucker's wife in West Virginia

Subject: Article about fuel

I wanted to say it is very sad about the fuel and how it's hurting the trucking industry for owner operators. I wanted to buy a truck for myself; it has always been my dream to be my own boss.

I guess that is not going to happen for me. I live here in Florida, I was driving for a local company and I got hurt in one of there trucks just because they didn't want to fix it. I was driving the truck for about six months while was still injured and finally I had to get out of the truck and take care of my problem.

Now, my problem is I cannot find any work in my area because of what is going on with the economy or because I got hurt and they think I'm a risk and they don't want to take a chance.

Anyways, I would love to buy my own truck, be my own boss, and not have to worry about anybody trying to stop me from my dream. If somebody could give me some advice, please, I would really appreciate it a lot. I don't want to lose this profession I love so much. Thank you.

P. S. I really like the emails you guys send they are really good to keep on top of what's going on out there. I also listen to satellite radio, that's another way I can keep up with everything. So thanks and God Bless everyone.

Subject: Trucker Strike

From what I know there was no strike. There were convoys protesting the fuel prices. If you go to mytruckingspace .com and look in the gallery, you will see some of the pictures that someone sent in about the convoys. One, if I'm not way off, was in Atlanta at one of the main truck stops.

If you have some way of getting info from the news stations or newspapers I believe you will find out what went down. Owner operators are closing up shop because of the high fuel prices.

I really don't see how any of them can make a profit with over $4.00 a gallon for fuel.

So, who is putting all the extra money in their pockets? Our government or the oil companies? Or both? Pretty soon the only trucking companies left will be the big companies.

WHAT ABOUT ALL THE REST OF US THAT ARE TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING? IT HAS BEEN MY HUSBAND'S DREAM TO OWN HIS OWN TRUCK, BUT' THE WAY THE THE WORLD IS GOING IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN, WE WOULD BE BROKE BEFORE WE EVEN STARTED.

On that note I will wish all the drivers that are trying to make a living as an owner operator the very best of luck, because as I can see it you will need it unless you know some kind of secret the rest of us don't.

Thanks for letting me voice my opinion.

I participated in the slow down on the NJ turnpike to help plug it up. My boss had informed me I would lose my job if I did strike, so I did what I could to support it and keep my job.

I supported our rights as best I know how.

With the TruckDriver.com Taking My Mind Off the News Survey, we thought we would take a little break from the real world and see what was happening in your virtual world.

Here's what we found out:

14% of you play video games every day

16% play every week

23% of you play now and then

20% of you hardly ever play

27% of you never play video games

70% of you don't play video games very often if at all, probably too busy watching the news, or worrying about how you are going to pay for fuel.

Someone suggested the next survey should be about fuel prices, but we thought the results would be too depressing, too real. We decided to stay with the e-world theme and came up with the TruckDriver.com Google Me Survey. If you haven't, you should.

Until next time, keep on truckin' and please drive safely.

Your Comments Are Always Welcome

We do like to hear from you and invite you to let us know how we can improve the e-Report. Please send your ideas and suggestions to: jobs@truckdriver.com
