Dear {FName},

We wanted to start off with a great April Fool's Day joke.

We wanted to, but we couldn't think of one.

So, we decided to start off with the Old Mail Bag instead.

Thank you all for the Happy Birthday wish. I did have a good one. I am diligently looking for an OTR position with a company that is "driver friendly". I'll tell you, it is a job looking for a job. (lol)

It is difficult sifting through thousands of trucking companies trying to find out the truth from the false promises. I must be careful making this move because once I make a decision to work for a company, I'd like to stay and make it a home or career, if you will. I sure could use an honest individual to help and guide me through this process.

I am currently working a 12 hour shift at night with the company I work for now, so if you can imagine, I'm having to use my time wisely. I'd like to be back on the road as soon as possible, especially since the summer weather is approaching soon. If there is someone who is willing to help, please give me a call. I'd like to talk with him/her and see if we can come up with a plan to get me "on the road again".

Thanks, Chris

Ok, you asked for it. "We do like to hear from you and invite you to let us know how we can improve the e-Report. Please send your ideas and suggestions"

I worked at a nuclear power station for many years. I was editor of a monthly newsletter and did NOT ask for comments. I hated producing that newsletter. But you seem to want to know how to improve yours.

The Ides of March at the start of the newsletter is filled with nothing but negative feelings and forewarnings of doom. Why print that? Why would you want a trucker, who already has an anxious job to have in the back of his mind that something horrible is going to befall him today? I read this to my truck driver husband. He was very bored for one thing because he could care less about Caesar. But, he also said, "Who sent you that crap." Ok, if it isn't about cars, trucks, hunting and fishing, it's crap to him. I appreciate the attempt to enlighten people with history. I can't say that I remembered what the Ides of March were. But, what good does it do me to know today?

Sorry, but you asked.

A trucker's wife.

Editor: As a former editor yourself, you know how difficult it is to find good content. By the way, did you know that the history of April Fool's Day or All Fool's Day is uncertain, but the current thinking is that it began around 1582 in France with the reform of the calendar under Charles IX. The Gregorian Calendar was introduced, and New Year's Day was moved from March 25 - April 1 (New Year's week) to January 1.

Thanks for writing and for the content!

TCA’s 2008 Company Equipment Driver of the Year
Officially Receives New Cummins-Powered Dodge Ram Pickup Truck

James Loveland says new pickup is “Finer than frog hair!”

James Loveland, the Truckload Carriers Association’s (TCA) 2008 Company Equipment Driver of the Year, took possession of his brand new, Cummins-powered Dodge Ram pickup truck on March 19, 2009, during the Mid-America Trucking Show, held at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Loveland, a company driver for WSE Transportation, LLC, of Elm Springs, Arkansas, received the pickup truck as part of his prize package for winning the grand prize in the 20 th annual “Company Equipment Driver of the Year Contest,” sponsored by Truckload Carriers Association and Trucker’s News.

“This pickup is fine! Finer than frog hair!” declared the Mobile, Alabama, resident when he saw the vehicle.

Loveland began his day at 9:00 a.m. by signing the paperwork for his truck. He then headed to the show, where the Cummins team provided him with souvenir clothing and a Cummins expert explained the features of Loveland’s new vehicle. The rest of his day was spent touring the show before being escorted to dinner by Don Hayden, co-chair of TCA’s Communications and Image Policy Committee and president of M & M Cartage Company, Louisville, Kentucky.

“It was an honor to spend time with James and help take care of the details in acquiring his new pickup,” said Hayden. “He is someone who truly understands the business and is a terrific role model for all drivers.”

Loveland received the prestigious award based on his excellent safety record, unblemished work history, and involvement in the community and industry. A truck driver for WSE Transportation, LLC, since 1998, he has logged more than 1.6 million accident-free, truckload miles. In 2005, he actively participated in the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) efforts to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. Later, in 2008, Loveland volunteered in a similar capacity when Hurricane Ike bore down on the state of Louisiana.

In addition to the pickup truck, Loveland’s grand prize package included $3,950 in truck stop gift cards, $2,750 in cash, a TagHeuer Swiss Avant-Gard men’s watch (valued at $1,500), and two roundtrip airplane tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S.

In The TruckDriver.com Carbonless Footprint Survey, we asked how concerned you are with your carbon footprint.

As it turns out, not very!

Here are the results:

62% - Not at all, the climate has always been changing and always will
22% - Not much, I do what I can, but it's the corporations and government who must lead the way
16% - Very, I'm the jolly green giant when it comes to the environment

Lincoln said you can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. Did you fool anyone this year?

Take The TruckDriver.com Who's the Biggest Fool at Last Survey and let us know.

Until next time, keep on truckin' and please drive safely.
