PeopleNet Becomes a Trucker Buddy Sponsor

Trucker BuddyPeopleNet, the leading provider of innovative and integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems for effective fleet management, has become one of Trucker Buddy’s newest donors for 2010.  In supporting the program they are enabling civic-minded professional drivers the opportunity to give back to their communities and helping to improve the image of the trucking industry for elementary students across the country.

“The generous donation that PeopleNet has made will help us further our mission and will make it possible for us to grow the number of teachers, drivers and more importantly students participating in the Trucker Buddy International program.  I’ve known the team at PeopleNet for along time and they continue to show how much they care for our industry.” said Randy Schwartzenburg, Executive Director.

"PeopleNet is proud to join the Trucker Buddy family," said Brian McLaughlin, PeopleNet CEO. "We strongly support the mission of Trucker Buddy and value the tremendous benefit the program brings to the children, schools and drivers who participate."

Trucker Buddy International, an independent, non-profit 501(c) (3) organization, often called the number one trucking image campaign in North America, has helped educate schoolchildren and introduce educators to the trucking industry.  This gives them the world through the eyes of a professional truck driver.  The Trucker Buddy program helps to educate and mentor schoolchildren via a pen pal relationship between professional truck drivers and children in grades 2-8 as supervised by their teachers.

After an extensive screening process, the professional truck drivers are matched with a class and as directed by the teacher, drivers share news about their travels with their class. Students write letters and send pictures to their drivers. Students' skills in reading, writing, geography, mathematics, social studies, and history are enhanced and learning is fun.

Since 1992, Trucker Buddy International has helped educate over a million schoolchildren and introduced them to caring, compassionate men and women, professional truck drivers.  The ongoing success of the program is due to driver volunteers, participating teachers and the contributions of sponsors.  There is no cost to the drivers or teachers to participate in the program. The Trucker Buddy program is funded entirely by sponsorships and donations.

Trucker Designed NASCAR Driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr.'s Paint Scheme

Winning Design Featured During Race at Phoenix International Raceway

Dale Earnhardt Jr. showcased a special No. 88 Diet Mountain Dew/National Guard Chevrolet when he raced in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Phoenix International Raceway. The paint scheme was designed by Jason Corino, one of Earnhardt’s biggest fans, and was selected by Earnhardt from almost 10,000 designs submitted during the Diet Mountain Dew ‘Paint The 88’ promotion.

“I was really interested to see what the fans would come up with and what their opinions are about what our car should look like,” Earnhardt said. “You want that reaction and connection with your fans, you want them to have input into what you are doing. It was a great program and as a fan you have to get excited about something like that.”

Diet Mountain Dew and the No. 88 Hendrick Motorsports team of Earnhardt teamed up to create the Diet Mountain Dew ‘Paint The 88’ program, which started July 5, 2010, and gave race fans the opportunity to create and submit a design that might be featured on Earnhardt’s No. 88 Chevrolet at Phoenix.

“Diet Dew and Dale Jr. make a great team,” said Rebecca Kerr, brand manager, Diet Mountain Dew. “We knew that bringing them together would tap into the excitement of  fans everywhere."

Coming up with the paint scheme was not easy for Corino, who admitted he does not have a background in design. Rather, Corino researched Earnhardt’s previous paint scheme preferences and finally locked down on an idea that seemed to follow the traditional color palette of Diet Mountain Dew, while also appealing to Earnhardt’s car-design sensibilities.

The 36-year-old native of Colorado Springs, Colo., said he was surprised to hear Earnhardt had chosen his green-and-white look.

“There are no words to explain how I feel, other than it was a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I’m excited,” Corino said. “Thank you so much Dale Jr. and Diet Mountain Dew."
