Dear {FName},

2nd Annual “Salute to the Women Behind the Wheel”

One of the goals of Women In Trucking Association (WIT) is to celebrate the success of women in the industry. WIT is hosting the 2nd annual “Salute to the Women Behind the Wheel” at the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, KY. The celebration begins at noon on Saturday, April 2.

Deborah Hersman, National Transportation Safety Board Chairman, will welcome drivers and assist in honoring those who have reached safety milestones. WIT will also take a photo of the professional female drivers and hope to beat the Guinness World Record of 416 set in the Netherlands in 2004

All female drivers are invited to attend. Proof of Class A or B commercial drivers license will be required. The first 600 female drivers through the door at the “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel”
will receive a goodie bag filled with items provided by the sponsors.

Please spread the word to female drivers as this event will honor all professional female drivers, whether
or not they are not members of the association.

WIT also extends an invitation to their members to attend this record breaking event and support these drivers. Women In Trucking members can receive a wristband for admittance to the event at their booth #40565 at Mid-America Trucking Show.

Trucker Buddy Driver of the Month
 January 2011
Kenneth Armstrong

Second grade teachers at Prince Charles Public School in Belleville, Ontario, Canada, say their Trucker Buddy, Kenneth Armstrong consistently goes above and beyond their expectations for their classes.  Because of his outstanding efforts, Armstrong has been named Trucker Buddy of the Month for January 2011.

"Ken is such an important part of our school community. Students look forward to his frequent postcards and love looking at the Trucker Buddy bulletin board at our school to see where he has most recently been and what funny joke he's going to make next,” say teachers Jennifer Black and Nicole LaSage. “He explains how important math, reading and writing are to his job...which ALL the teachers are grateful for! He is positive, caring and makes our school a better place.”

Armstrong, a Swift driver from Sumner, Wash., enjoys his opportunities to visit the classroom, giving the children a glimpse of the truck and answering questions. Black and LaSage say he’s always willing to stay a bit later so each child gets a chance to speak with him and to take the time to put extra detail into the notes he sends.

"This year, when Ken found out about our primary playground equipment being removed, he suggested applying for a grant from Swift Transportation and helped with the application,” Black says. “In looking at the commitment, dedication and attention to detail Ken puts forth at our school, we can only imagine the excellence he must bring to the job on a daily basis. Kenneth B. Armstrong is the BEST Trucker Buddy any school could have."

Janet Richards, Chair of the Prince Charles School Council, says, “The Trucker Buddy program is one that has a lasting impact on our students from both an educational and fun perspective. Ken Armstrong was the Trucker Buddy for my daughter's fourth grade class five years ago, and she still remembers Ken and his visits. Ken's relationship with the school is a valuable one and we are grateful for all his hard work with the classroom and playground equipment, too.”

Since 1992, Trucker Buddy International has helped educate over a million schoolchildren and introduced them to caring, compassionate men and women, professional truck drivers.  The on-going success of the program is due to driver volunteers, participating teachers and the contributions of sponsors.  There is no cost to the drivers or teachers to participate in the program. The Trucker Buddy of the Month is sponsored by Daimler Truck Products and includes, Freightliner Trucks, Western Star Trucks and Detroit Diesel Engines.  The Trucker Buddy program is funded entirely by sponsorships and donations.
