TruckDriver.com Carrier of the Month CRST Dedicated Services, Inc.

Seems like only a couple of weeks ago we were talking about Hurricane Florence and now, here it is seven letters later, and we’re talking about Hurricane Michael. We’re pretty sure Mother Nature will be the one to settle the Climate Change argument, one way or another!

Anyway, the folks along the Florida Panhandle could sure use your help. So, please, if you can, make a donation through redcross.org.

Turnover at Large Truckload Fleets Hits Highest Level Since 2015 LTL Churn Rate Also Hit Five-Year High

The annualized turnover rate at large truckload carriers jumped four percentage points in the second quarter to 98%, according to American Trucking Associations’ Trucking Activity Report.

“So far this year, the turnover rate at large truckload fleets is up ten percentage points,” said ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello. “The extreme tightening of the driver market – driven by solid freight demand – will continue to challenge fleets looking for qualified drivers.”

The jump for carriers with more than $30 million in annual revenue set the churn rate at its highest point since the fourth quarter of 2015. In the first half of the year, turnover is averaging 96%, putting 2018 on pace to be the highest annual rate since 2013.

At the same time, the turnover rate at smaller truckload fleets slipped one percentage point to 72%.

WIT Announces its October 2018 Member of the Month Lana Poveda

Women In Trucking Association (WIT) has announced Lana Poveda as its October Member of the Month. Lana is a CRST Expedited Team Driver with 15 years of service.

All of us in the transportation industry can find inspiration in Lana Poveda’s one-million-miles of accident-free driving.

What’s perhaps even more inspiring is Lana’s fun-loving, gentle and uplifting spirit—and her ability to always look on the bright side of life, even when facing one of life’s greatest challenges. Lana was diagnosed with breast cancer last month.

“I had some unexpected home-time, so I squeezed in an appointment,” said Lana. “I’m glad I did, as my type of breast cancer is hard to detect; and it was detected early. I’m optimistic, but I am also leaning a little harder on my partner in love and life these days.”

In Lana’s case, her partner in and outside the cab is her husband, Claude. “After many years together, we’re still very much in love! It’s nice being together on the road because we work better together as a team.”

Now at their home in Palm Spring, Calif., the two are continuing to work together through Lana’s treatment plan before returning to their favorite part of their careers as drivers—traveling to see the country.
