Amazon Tries to Take on the Entire Trucking Industry
It's leveraging its own size and relationships to enter a new industry

At roughly the same time Amazon quietly let it be known that it plans to move from free two-day shipping to one-day shipping for Prime members, the company dropped another bombshell. The e-commerce giant took its freight brokerage platform live at freight.amazon.com.

That's not a move the company did much to promote. In fact, there's no press release on the company's website nor did it have a media event to trumpet its efforts.

Not playing up major news seems to be part of CEO Jeff Bezos's playbook. That does not make the beta launch of Amazon's freight service in Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania any less epic, however.

What is Amazon doing?

Expedite Expo 2019 Planning Guide
By Sean M. Lyden

Whether you’re a driver, owner-operator, or fleet owner, you’re looking for new ideas and relationships that can help you stack the odds of success in your favor.

And that’s precisely what you’ll find at Expedite Expo. The Expo is the place where attendees across North America come to learn about the newest trucks, career and business opportunities, and products geared specifically to drivers, owner-operators, and fleet owners in expedited trucking.

Launched in 2001, Expedite Expo is the only trade show in the world geared exclusively to the expediting trucking industry; Expediter Services is once again our title sponsor of the event.   We are excited to move the show to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, IN. The Expo will be held July 19 & 20.

At the Expo, you’ll gain access to valuable education and networking opportunities—all for free, including truck parking. So, here are some of the highlights to consider as you plan your Expo itinerary.

Teachers Receive School Grants from
TRUCKER BUDDY and TRIMBLE

Trucker Buddy International and Trimble are pleased to announce that 19 classes have each been granted $500 for school supplies and equipment needs as part of the School Supply Grant Program. The program started in the fall of 2014, where teachers completed an application to qualify for grant consideration. Schools were evaluated based on funding needs, as well as the level of creativity in how applicants would use the funds.

Open to current Trucker Buddies and their Trucker Buddy classes, some teachers use the grant application for class projects to enable students to be involved in the process. This became not only a request for funds but also a learning experience for the students.

“Trimble is proud to continue supporting the Trucker Buddy scholarship program,” said Rick Ochsendorf, general manager – North America for Trimble’s Transportation division. “Through these grants, students will be able to further their education and learn more about the importance of the transportation industry.”

Alan Welborn, executive director of Trucker Buddy was very pleased with the grant program. “Trucker Buddy, with the funding from Trimble, is thrilled to offer these grants to these deserving schools,” Welborn said. “Many teachers and drivers donate not only their time but also their own funds to help their classrooms, so this is a great opportunity to help their community.”
