ATA, Trucking Industry Kick Off 2021 National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

This week, American Trucking Associations and the entire trucking industry began a weeklong celebration of the 3.6 million professional truck drivers who deliver America's freight safely and securely every day.

"This week is a time to remind the public of the debt of gratitude owed to these unsung heroes," said ATA President and CEO Chris Spear. "At a time when confidence in our national institutions sits at a low, and crises of leadership have seemingly become the norm, I'm pressed to find a group of Americans more deserving of our appreciation and respect."

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, September 12-18, provides the trucking industry an opportunity to formally recognize the efforts of professional truck drivers. State trucking associations, industry suppliers, law enforcement, and motor carriers of all sizes from coast to coast are set to host appreciation events for the men and women who safely deliver 72.5% of the country's total freight tonnage.

TCA and CarriersEdge Open Nominations for 2022 Best Fleets to Drive For® Contest

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA), the only trade association whose sole focus is the truckload segment of the motor carrier industry, today announced that it is partnering with LaunchIt Public Relations, a firm focused exclusively on the trucking and transportation industry, to develop and roll out a comprehensive program that focuses on the image of the trucking industry. This initiative comes at the same time that TCA has reached a record high in carrier membership with a 6% year-to-date gain. TCA carrier members have a combined truck count of more than 210,000 trucks that represent over $38B in annual truckload revenue.

The new initiative is predicated on showcasing the truckload segment of the industry’s importance in four areas:

  • A strong commitment to SAFETY;
  • The use of ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY to improve safety, efficiency, and driver quality of life;
  • The ESSENTIALITY of truckload carriers for the nation, its economy and prosperity; and
  • Recognition for the generosity of the industry through DRIVER GOODWILL and CARRIER COMMUNITY OUTREACH.

ATA Statement on Vaccine Mandates

American Trucking Associations President and CEO Chris Spear issued the following statement today regarding the Administration's proposed vaccine mandate on employers with more than 100 employees:

"The first rule of any public health policy should be 'do no harm.' Unfortunately, these latest mandates and the unintended consequences they’ll create fall short of that standard.

"ATA, its members and our drivers remain committed to delivering life-saving COVID vaccines, but these proposed requirements—however well-intentioned—threaten to cause further disruptions throughout the supply chain, impeding our nation’s COVID response efforts and putting the brakes on any economic revival.

"If these mandates are designed to protect Americans, then why the discriminatory 100-employee threshold, picking winners and losers for both employees and employers?

"As this proposal moves forward, ATA is examining all options and will choose a path that protects our industry—so that it can continue delivering on behalf of our country."
