For the Seventh Year, TCA and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund

Partner to Bring “The Wall That Heals” to Communities

Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Announces 2022 The Wall That Heals Tour Schedule

Vietnam Veterans Memorial Replica Wall and Mobile Education Center spreads healing legacy of The Wall and educates about the impact of the Vietnam War

For the seventh year, the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is honored to continue its partnership with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF).

Since 2015, TCA carrier members have transported “The Wall That Heals,” an exhibit which includes a three-quarter scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial along with a mobile Education Center, to communities nationwide. The traveling exhibit honors the more than three million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces in the Vietnam War and it bears the names of the 58,281 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam.

This year, the 27th season of The Wall That Heals will begin on March 24, 2022, in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and visit 29 communities during the year.

“Partnering with TCA enables us to continue our mission to honor and preserve the legacy of The Wall That Heals and educate all generations about the impact of the Vietnam War,” shared VVMF President and CEO Jim Knotts. “We look forward to providing communities with a healing experience for local veterans and their families and an educational experience for all visitors on the continuing impact of the Vietnam War on America.”

Each year a TCA for-hire member is selected to host a sponsored stop, courtesy of VVMF. The organizations are eager to share that announcement once able.

ATA Names 36 Professional Drivers as Finalists for 2022-23 America’s Road Team

Newest Team of Elite Driver Ambassadors to be Named in January

American Trucking Associations have released the list of 36 professional truck drivers named as finalists for the 2022-2023 term of America’s Road Team.

“These men and women were selected as finalists for America’s Road Team because they have outstanding safe driving records, share a passion for the trucking industry and are role models among their peers,” said ATA President and CEO Chris Spear. “We owe these professional drivers our gratitude, without them the American economy would come to a halt.”

America’s Road Team, a group of professional truck drivers with superior safety records, was created in 1986 to represent the trucking industry and is sponsored by Volvo Trucks. Captains, with support from their companies, dedicate a few days each month to attend industry events, speak at schools, or meet policymakers on behalf of the trucking industry.

The 36 finalists advance to the final round of the selection process, being held January in Arlington, Virginia. A panel of evaluators, including industry officials and trucking news media representatives will judge the contenders on their knowledge of the trucking industry, dedication to safety, ability to communicate the industry’s messages and overall safe driving record. The finalists, with a combined total of 75 million safe-driving miles and 923 years as professional truck drivers, are highway safety experts eager to share their experiences with the motoring public.

Annual Trucking Trends Report Shows Impact of Pandemic on Industry

Trucking Remained Dominant Mode of Freight in Challenging Year

The trucking industry moved 10.23 billion tons of freight in 2020, generating $732.3 billion in revenue, according to the latest edition of American Trucking Associations’ American Trucking Trends 2021.

“We knew that the pandemic had a significant impact on our industry, but this year’s Trends shows that despite those challenges, the trucking industry remained our nation’s lifeline – delivering the life-saving and life-sustaining essentials our country needed in a time of great need,” said ATA Chief Economist Bob Costello. “Trends is an indispensable resource for anyone  looking to understand the trucking industry.”

Among the findings in trends:

  • In 2020, trucks moved 10.23 billion tons of freight – down from 11.84 billion tons the previous year.

  • The industry collected 80.4% of the nation’s freight bill, unchanged from the previous year, while generating $732.3 billion.

  • Trucking employed 7.65 million people in industry-related jobs, including 3.36 million professional truck drivers.

  • Women made up 7.8% of the nation’s drivers – an all-time high – and minorities account for 42.3% of truck drivers.

  • Trucking remains a small business industry: 91.5% of fleets operate six or fewer trucks, and 97.4% operate less than 20.

  • Trucks moved 70.9% of the value of surface trade between the U.S. and Canada and 83.8% of cross-border trade with Mexico, for a total of $695 billion worth of goods.

“Having good data is a prerequisite to making good decisions, and year in and year out, Trends provides the kind of up-to-date, accurate data about the industry that decision makers need,” said ATA President and CEO Chris Spear. “That data is why Trends is found on the desks of countless elected officials, regulators and industry executives across the country.”
