Women Comprise 12.1 Percent of Commercial Driver Workforce

According to new data from the WIT Index, which was just released by the Women In Trucking Association (WIT), an average 12.1% of overall professional drivers who hold commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) and drive heavy-duty trucks are female.

Women generally possess strong multi-tasking and organizational skills, and typically are safe drivers. For these reasons along with the need for more professional truck drivers, there has been a significant increase in the number of female drivers for the past five years.

FMCSA Leasing Task Force Begins Work

In their first meeting on July 11, members of a federal truck-leasing task force began outlining plans for future discussions on how to evaluate potential predatory commercial and motor carrier lease agreements with independent owner-operators.

The nine-member leasing task force was established under authority provided by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and chartered by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who challenged the committee in a kickoff speech.

These 3.49 million professional men and women not only deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time, but they also keep our highways safe.

Celebrated annually, this year's National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is September 10-16, 2023 and we invite all Americans to show professional truck drivers appreciation and support for all the hard work they do. Their efforts contribute greatly to our quality of life and truly move America forward.
