2023 TCA Fleet Safety Grand Prize Winners Announced:
Fortune Transportation Company, Inc. and Bison Transport

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) 2024 Annual Convention, Truckload 2024: Nashville, culminated with the announcement of the 2023 TCA Fleet Safety Awards Grand Prize. The contest is made possible by Sponsors, Great West Casualty Company, and Assured Partners.

The Grand Prize was awarded to Fortune Transportation Company, Inc of Windom, Minnesota in the small carrier division?(total annual mileage of less than 25 million) and Bison Transport, Inc. of Winnipeg, Manitoba in the large carrier division (total annual mileage of 25 million or more). Both carriers demonstrated that they had exceptional safety programs and impressive accident frequency ratios over the last year.

Women In Trucking Association Names Sarah Ruffcorn 2024 Distinguished Woman in Logistics

The Women In Trucking Association (WIT), Truckstop and Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) announced today Sarah Ruffcorn president of Trinity Logistics as the winner of the 10th annual Distinguished Woman in Logistics Award (DWLA).

Ruffcorn was chosen among three finalists for the award. The other finalists include Sherri Garner Brumbaugh, president and CEO, Garner Trucking, Inc. and Ramona Hood, president and CEO, FedEx Custom Critical, Inc. The finalists and winner were recognized today during the TIA 2024 Capital Ideas Conference & Exhibition.

FMCSA reports low interest in Safe Driver Apprenticeship Pilot (SDAP) Program

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration says only 113 motor carriers have applied for its under-21 truck driver apprenticeship program since the agency began accepting applications in July 2022, a dismal sign for an initiative that had been expected to recruit up to 1,000 carriers and 3,000 drivers.

The data, included in a fiscal year 2022 report submitted to Congress last week by FMCSA, also revealed that as of February 2024, FMCSA has rejected 34% – or 38 of the 113 applications received. The agency has fully approved only 30%, or 34 of the applications.
