Trucking Cares Foundation Announces New Chairman

On Giving Tuesday, the Trucking Cares Foundation announced changes to its leadership. Greg Owen of Ability Tri-Modal was selected to be the new chairman of the trucking industry’s charitable arm.  Owen succeeds Phil Byrd, TCF’s inaugural chairman who served in that capacity since TCF was founded in 2018.

 

Over the past year, TCF has donated $150,000 to various charitable causes. One of TCF’s top priorities under Owen's leadership in the coming years is to continue raising the profile of the Foundation’s efforts and develop new fundraising initiatives with the ultimate goal of creating an endowed TCF fund.  Your support is needed to achieve that goal, and you can participate by donating here.

FMCSA Removes Four Devices from List of Registered ELDs

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) removed four devices from the agency’s list of registered electronic logging devices, or ELDs. COLUMBUS ELD (Model Number: C-US) and MasterELD (Model Numbers: MELD02, MELD03, and MELD04) devices were placed on the Revoked Devices list due to the companies’ failure to meet the minimum requirements established in 49 CFR part 395, subpart B, appendix A. The removals are effective December 11, 2024.

FMCSA will send an industry-wide email to inform motor carriers that all who use these revoked ELDs must take the following steps:

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration today finalized significant updates to its consumer-facing 5-Star Safety Ratings program, a pivotal action that will improve safety on our nation’s roads by incorporating new advanced driver assistance technologies,adding a crashworthiness pedestrian protection program, and setting a roadmap for future program changes over the next 10 years.
