Charlie Daniels Band to Perform at the Charlotte Diesel Super Show

Music legend Charlie Daniels will take the stage at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Friday night, Oct. 7, 2011, during the 2011 Charlotte Diesel Super Show.

Daniels first hit the charts in 1975 when his rebel anthems “Long Haired Country Boy” and “The South’s Gonna Do It” propelled his collection Fire on the Mountain to multi-Platinum status. In 1979 Daniels’ “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” became a Platinum single, topping both country and pop charts. The song won a Grammy Award, earned three Country Music Association trophies and propelled Daniel’s Million Mile Reflections album to Triple Platinum sales levels. Daniels is a member of the Grand Ole Opry and the Musicians Hall of Fame.

 “Charlie Daniels is one of the most popular entertainers of our time,” says Alan K. Sims, vice president/executive director of events for Randall-Reilly, which produces the show. “We are delighted to have him entertain Charlotte Diesel Super Show attendees.”

The Charlie Daniels concert will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, and is free with purchase of a Charlotte Diesel Super Show ticket. Adult admission is $20 for a two-day pass; tickets for children ages 7 to 16 are $10 for two days. Children 6 and younger can attend for free. In addition to the concert, all events, exhibits and parking are included in the purchase price.

Held Friday and Saturday, October 7-8, 2011, at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, zMax Dragway in Concord, N.C., the Charlotte Diesel Super Show offers live equipment and truck demonstrations, industry-related exhibits, ride and drives and activities for all ages. Other events include Truck Drag Races and the Custom Rigs’ Pride and Polish truck beauty contest. Additionally, there will be opportunities for drivers to do a test drive down the zMax Dragway.

Custom Rigs Pride & Polish Crowns First Ever National Champions
Speed Channel’s American Trucker will devote episode to the competition in early October.

Custom Rigs Pride & Polish named its first-ever national champions Aug. 27 during the Great American Trucking Show, culminating a playoff-style series that began in October of last year. The four national champions qualified by winning Best of Show at one of five Custom Rigs Pride & Polish events: Truckin’ For Kids in Irwindale, Calif., Charlotte Diesel Super Show in Concord, N.C., 75 Chrome Shop Show in Wildwood, Fla., the Great West Truck Show in Las Vegas, Nev., and the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas, Texas.

            The 2011 National Championship winners are:
·           Jonathan Eilen of Hampton, Minn., overall best working combo;
·           Bill and Marie Sandvik of Valley Center, Calif., overall best working bobtail;
·           Randy Stroup of Lewisport, Ky., overall best limited mileage bobtail;
·           Paul Voigt of St. Cloud, Minn., overall best limited mileage combo.

The National Championship took place as part of the Custom Rigs Pride & Polish event held annually during the Great American Trucking Show. Seventy-one trucks competed in that event, making it the largest indoor truck beauty contest in the world, says Alan K. Sims, vice president/executive director of the Randall-Reilly Events Group, which produces the Pride & Polish events and the Great American Trucking Show. “The Custom Rigs Pride & Polish is the largest truck beauty series in the country,” Sims says. “There's no better competition for recognizing the best trucks in North America.”

 A highlight of this year’s event was a cameo appearance by Robb Mariani, host of the Speed Channel's American Trucker, who served as a judge. The episode featuring the competition and the Great American Trucking Show will air in early October.

For information about competing in or sponsoring the Custom Rigs Pride & Polish National Championship series, contact Alan Sims at (205) 248-1339, asims@rrpub.com. The 2012 Championship will be held August 24-26 in Dallas at the Great American Trucking Show

We pretty much knew what the results of the TruckDriver.com Never Forget Survey
would be when we came up with the idea; and here they are:

Do you remember where you were when you first learned of the events taking place on the morning of September 11, 2001?

Yes, I know exactly where I was and what I was doing at the time - 98%
No, I don’t specifically recall - 1%
I didn’t learn of the attacks until later in the day - 1%

Federal regulations have banned the use of radar detectors in commercial vehicles engaged in interstate commerce since 1994. In addition, several states – Illinois, New York and New Jersey – ban radar detectors in commercial vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds, and all vehicles over 18,000 pounds. Each state determines and enforces its own penalties against truck drivers who use radar detectors.

However, in recent years, radar detectors have become much more sophisticated – but so have law enforcement tools for catching speeders. Some states, such as Texas, equip their state troopers with “detector detectors” which allow them to determine whether a truck is using a radar detector as it drives by and many weight stations now have tools to determine whether a trucker is using a radar detector.

So, take the TruckDriver.com I’m Not Telling Survey and tell us about you and radar detectors.

We’ll see you mid Trucktober, until then, keep on truckin’ and please drive safely!
