Truckload Carriers Association Names 2015-16 Scholarship Winners

The Truckload Carriers Association’s (TCA) Scholarship Fund will be providing financial assistance to 37 college students for the 2015-16 academic year. Each student will receive amounts ranging from $2,725 to $6,250, from a total pool of approximately $108,000.

The six largest amounts are for scholarships named after some of TCA’s past chairmen and most dedicated members and affiliates. The largest scholarship—named after the National Association of Independent Truckers for the amount of $6,250—will go to Joey Kilmartin of Murray, Kentucky. A former over-the-road driver and driver trainer, Kilmartin now works in the Driver Services Department at Paschall Truck Lines and is working toward a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

“I plan to use my business skills, knowledge of technology, over-the-road driving experience, and my work experience to help me excel to the top of this fine industry of ours,” said Kilmartin.

Dylan Tungate of Loretto, Kentucky, is studying business information technology and would like to eventually earn a master’s degree in management. He will receive the $4,500 scholarship named after Past TCA Chairman John Kaburick. Tungate says that he learned to be a hard worker and team player from his dad, who works for Hendrickson.

“As a little kid, I remember my dad getting up early in the morning to go to his job,” he said. “To this day, he continues the same routine, which shows how dedicated he is to his work and his family. My dad has taught me how to be an exceptional student and employee, which includes always showing up on time, completing every task you start, and working together as a team. … I will continue to carry these skills throughout the rest of college, work, and my life.”

A complete list of this year’s winners can be found at www.truckload.org/scholarships. This page will also house the online application for next year’s scholarships (available May 2016).

TCA’s Scholarship Fund has been providing assistance to students associated with the truckload industry since 1973. Each of the winners must be a student in good standing at a four-year college or university. Each recipient is associated with a TCA member company as an employee, independent contractor, or the child, grandchild, or spouse of an employee or independent contractor. Additionally, the winners have shown financial need and scholastic achievement, maintained full-time student status, and demonstrated that they have high character and integrity. The Fund awards its scholarships without regard to sex, race, color, national origin, or religion.
