Wikipedia defines a Truck Driver as - A truck driver (commonly referred to as a trucker, teamster or driver in the United States and Canada; a truckie in Australia and New Zealand; a lorry driver, or driver in Ireland, the United Kingdom, India and Pakistan) is a person who earns a living as the driver of a truck (usually a semi truck, box truck or dump truck).

With that in mind, we would like to remind you that National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is held annually during the month of September. This year, NTDAW is scheduled for September 11-17. ATA will be joining America’s Road Team and ATA First Vice Chairman Kevin Burch for an event in Dayton, Ohio during the week of NTDAW and encourages motor carriers and suppliers throughout the industry to hold appreciation events for professional truck drivers. Visit the official NTDAW webpage to see the NTDAW toolkit including suggested events, sample op-eds and press releases to generate local appreciation of drivers, and sample state proclamations to make NTDAW a recognized week in each state.

And that reminds us to remind you that the Great American Trucking Show is coming to the Kay Baily Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, TX August 24, 25, 26. You can get all of the details here.

Hope to see you there!

Top 10 Finalists Named in Trucking's Top Rookie Contest

A panel of judges has narrowed the field, and 10 professional truck drivers have been chosen as finalists in the search for this year’s Trucking’s Top Rookie.

The winner of the award will be announced during ceremonies at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas next month, and will receive $10,000 and a package of prizes.

The nine runners up will receive $1,000 and other prizes as well.

The Trucking’s Top Rookie contest is a partnership between "Truckers News," the Truckload Carriers Association, Commercial Vehicle Training Association, Rand McNally, Pilot Flying J, Progressive Commercial Insurance, National Association of Publicly Funded Driving Schools, Professional Truck Driver Institute, American Trucking Associations and the Red Eye Radio Network.

“We thank the judges for their hard work in narrowing the field of nominees to these ten finalists,” said “Truckers News” Editor David Hollis. “Each of these ten deserving finalists has shown they possess the skills, outlook and dedication to be successful in the American trucking industry.”

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has been instrumental in helping recognize these drivers who are new and important to the industry, said Hollis.

“TCA not only hosts the online nomination form, but we act as a clearinghouse by ensuring the nominees’ motor vehicle records (MVRs) are clean prior to reaching the judges,” says TCA’s President, John Lyboldt.  “Safety is top of mind and TCA takes pride in knowing only those worthy could potentially be named Trucking’s Top Rookie.”

“TCA is proud to be involved in this contest, year after year,” says Lyboldt. “It’s a great way to showcase drivers who are making a difference in their communities and on the nation’s highways.”
