Expedite Expo, America’s largest expedite trucking show, returns in 2017

Expedite Expo, returns in 2017 with an exciting new format designed to optimize interactions between exhibitors and attendees, as well as offering ideas and opportunities to grow your business.

Expedite Expo will be held July 14-15, 2017, at the Lexington Convention Center in downtown Lexington, KY.

The new format will feature a focus on workshops in the morning each day — from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, July 14, and from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15 — before the show floor opens.

“We believe that giving the workshops the exclusive time, that there will be no competition for exhibits on the Expo floor,” Expo producer On Time Media said in a press release. “For the first time, we’ll have dedicated workshops for every type of person attending. The workshops will be organized by tracks – Fleet Owner, Owner Operator, Driver and Motor Carrier.”

The workshops have been a popular feature at the Expo for years. The new format will allow attendees to take advantage of the workshops without taking time away from the exhibition floor.

Expedite Expo has become a must-attend event for those affiliated with the expedite trucking industry because it offers attendees a chance to see and learn about the latest equipment, products, services, and career opportunities from every major industry category in one venue.

As many as 25 to 30 companies that are hiring drivers could be on site at the Expo. Drivers can talk face-to-face with exhibitors who are hiring and find out what they have to offer.

Another new feature at the Expo this year is Expediter of the Year award, sponsored by ExpeditersOnline.com. This contest is open to any expedite trucking industry driver, team, or owner operator based in the United States or Canada. Anyone can nominate a driver, and nominations will be viewed and voted on by a group of trucking professionals. Nominations can be submitted through the ExpeditersOnline.com application process.

The top three nominees will be announced in early June and will be asked to be present at Expedite Expo. The top finalist will receive $500 cash for travel, two nights’ hotel accommodations provided by ExpeditersOnline.com and an Expediter of the Year Plaque.

The Expo still offers FREE registration, FREE easy and convenient parking and a great hotel attached to the Convention Center. Lexington offers countless dining and entertainment options and is a great destination.

OOIDA: Video shows why speed limiters on trucks would be bad for all vehicles

Truckers won’t be the only ones to suffer if the government implements a proposed speed limiter mandate for heavy trucks and other large commercial vehicles. To illustrate the point, The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) produced a video demonstrating the dangers of speed-limited trucks, particularly to motorists in passenger vehicles.

A mandate to limit the speed of large trucks was proposed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration in September 2016. OOIDA opposes mandatory speed limiters, pointing to research that contradicts the feds’ claimed “safety benefits,” as it would force a speed differential between heavy trucks and other vehicles using the highways. That would lead to more vehicle interactions, unsafe maneuvering and crashes, a study of speed differentials shows.

“Studies and research have already proven what we were all taught long ago in driver’s ed classes, that traffic is safest when vehicles all travel at the same relative speed,” said Norita Taylor, OOIDA’s director of public relations. “Limiting trucks to speeds less than the flow of traffic increases interactions between vehicles, which can lead to more crashes.”

The Association also challenges the assertion that slowing trucks down will lead to safer roadways, saying the data the agencies used to reach those conclusions in the regulatory impact analysis is deeply flawed, and fails to consider the documented risks created by speed differentials between passenger and commercial motor vehicles.

The video is designed not only for the trucking community, but also for all highway users so that they can learn the dangers of speed differentials created by artificially speed limiting large trucks. (Video)

The Scariest Chart About Autonomous Driving

(From the May issue of Fortune)

When Americans talk about “robots taking our jobs,” they’re usually referring to factory work. That’s because we don’t have self-driving trucks yet.

Truck driving is one of the occupations most vulnerable to automation, and one of the most common. That combination, many believe, represents one of the largest eventual threats to the American economy.

There are 1.8 million truck drivers in the U.S., making it one of the largest occupations in the country. There are tens of thousands of truck drivers in most major metropolitan areas.
