NEWS AND EVENTS
The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) and CarriersEdge are pleased to announce the 2018 Best Fleets to Drive For. These 20 for-hire trucking companies from across North America are being recognized for providing exemplary work environments for their professional truck drivers and independent contractors.
To be considered for the Best Fleets program, companies operating ten or more trucks had to receive a nomination from at least one of their company drivers or owner-operators. CarriersEdge then interviewed human resources representatives and executives of the nominated fleets regarding their corporate directions, policies, and programs. The fleets were evaluated using a scoring matrix covering a variety of categories, such as total compensation package, health benefits, pension plans, professional development opportunities, and career path/advancement opportunities, among other criteria. Located in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and in El Paso, Texas, Mesilla Valley Transportation began in 1982 hauling primarily refrigerated/perishable goods, as a small, independent fleet in the Southwest. During a period of controlled growth through the 1980’s and early 1990’s, the MVT service area encompassed the 48 United States and Canada. Even then, M-V-T was recognized as a leader in quality service.
In 1991, MVT brought its knowledge of time-sensitive, and reliable transportation to the U.S. Mexico border in service of the twin-plant industry. The purchase of numerous 53 ft. dry van trailers made their fleet a sizable force in the industry.
Today, Mesilla Valley Transportation is one of the largest locally-owned transportation providers in Western Texas and New Mexico. They specialize in time sensitive service between major manufacturing areas in the U.S. and Canada and Mexico borders. Compare their service, rates and safety record to any trucking company in the nation.
M-V-T has the resources to handle any dry freight transportation need. They are committed to delivering valuable assets on time and in good condition. That’s how they developed their excellent reputation.
They pride themselves in finding ways to make their equipment cut through the wind like no other. The use of low rolling resistance tires has reduced parasitic drag in their tractors, they were the first to apply trailer skirts to 100% of their fleet and are in the process of installing boat tails to trailer rears to further reduce drag.
Mesilla Valley Transportation is one of the largest, most efficient locally-owned transportation fleets in the U.S. They genuinely care about what their drivers have to say and treat them like family. That’s the MVT difference and the key to their and their driver’s long-term success.

Announces Feb. 21 Press Conference, Truckers Against Trafficking Campaign Launch
Last month, American Trucking Associations and America’s Road Team brought attention to National Human Trafficking Awareness Month through several awareness initiatives. In February, ATA and America’s Road Team are joining Truckers Against Trafficking on Capitol Hill to continue bringing awareness to the issue, specifically emphasizing efforts to reduce demand.
“The trucking industry is seven million strong, and our goal is to have everyone in our industry trained on how to recognize human trafficking and how to take action to rescue victims and save lives by making the call and reporting the crime,” said ATA Executive Vice President of Industry Affairs Elisabeth Barna told the House Homeland Security Committee during a roundtable on the issue. “Our industry has made nearly 2,000 calls to the national human trafficking hotline, resulting in more than 600 likely human trafficking cases identified involving more than 1,300 trafficking victims. More than 375 of those rescued victims were minors.” (Click here for the full story)
