School Days Are Here Again
It’s back-to-school time. That means school buses and school children are back on the road.
Every school year we hear about crashes involving a school bus. Unfortunately, some involve big trucks.
According to the American Automobile Association, (AAA) all drivers need to be extra aware this time of year. AAA has these back-to-school safety reminders for all drivers.
The Truckload Carriers Association’s (TCA) Scholarship Fund will be providing financial assistance to 50 undergraduate college students for the 2017-18 academic year. Each student will receive a scholarship ranging from $2,725 to $6,250, from a total pool of approximately $150,000.
The six largest scholarships are named after dedicated members, affiliates, and past TCA chairmen. The largest scholarship—named after the National Association of Independent Truckers (NAIT) in the amount of $6,250—will be awarded to Dylan Tungate of Louisville, Kentucky. Tungate has earned a TCA Scholarship in each of the past four years, but this will be his first time receiving the NAIT Scholarship.
A senior at Campbellsville University studying Business Administration, Tungate has maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his collegiate career. He attributes his successes to the work ethic that his father instilled in him. “As a little kid, I remember my dad getting up early in the morning to go to his job at Hendrickson,” Tungate recalls. “It has taught me how to be an exceptional student and employee, which includes always showing up on time, completing every task you start, and working together as a team. I’ve followed the example he set for me as I grew up, and it has paid off.”
The second-largest award, $4,500, named after John Kaburick, TCA chairman from 2010-2011, will be awarded to Bailey Snow of Lincoln, Nebraska. Snow is a sophomore at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln who, like Tungate, is studying Business Administration. Also like Tungate, she credits her father with providing a model of how hard work can lead to success. “My dad thoroughly enjoys going to work, which is both promising and inspiring for me. His work ethic and joy for work give me hope that I will one day find a career that I can also enjoy.”
A complete list of this year's winners can be found atwww.truckload.org/scholarships. This page will also house the online application for next year's scholarships (available April 2018).
TCA’s Scholarship Fund has been providing assistance to students associated with the truckload industry since 1973. Each of the winners must be a student in good standing who will be attending a four-year college or university in the Fall, and must be associated with a TCA member company as an employee, or independent contractor, or be the child, grandchild, or spouse of an employee or independent contractor of a TCA member company. The Fund awards its scholarships without regard to sex, race, color, national origin, or religion.

Everett Roehl began providing motor carrier service in 1962 with a single truck. Today, Roehl Transport is one of the 100 largest trucking companies in the nation with over 1,900 tractors and 5,200 trailers. Roehl is consistently listed on the Transport Topics top 100 list as well as in the CCJ Top 250.
Roehl distinguishes themselves from other trucking companies by leaning on the principles Everett recognized early on in his career – succeed by delivering. More than simply moving freight from point A to point B – rather, Roehl delivers on the promise they made to the customer.
Roehl Transport is also one of the best trucking companies to drive for. Roehl truck drivers are leaders – they are professionals in their truck driving jobs and lead the industry in safety, productivity, earnings and customer service. One of the reasons so many drivers choose Roehl is the trucking company’s over 50 years of transportation success. Roehl was not built to serve shareholders or banks. Everett Roehl started Roehl as a driver. 'We're built to serve our customers and we do that by taking care of our drivers".
Rick Roehl, company CEO, is also a professional truck driver with his Class A CDL. Rick gets behind the wheel, going over the road to do what the most important people in this company do – haul freight. That's the only way to lead a drivers' company.
No matter your level of experience – from seasoned driver to just starting out the industry, Roehl’s the place for mission-driven professional drivers.
The Women In Trucking (WIT) Association announced today that it will be giving away a 2014 Volvo VNL670 at the “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel” next spring. The truck is being donated to WIT by Arrow Truck Sales, Inc., a Gold Partner supporter of the association.
To qualify, a driver must complete an application form to verify eligibility, and write a short essay on why it is important to attract more women into the trucking industry. Examples of ways the driver has encouraged women to consider a career in trucking will show her or his support for the mission of Women In Trucking Association.
Applications will be accepted at 2018 TRUCK GIVEAWAY until November 15, 2017. The contestant must be at least 23 years old and hold a valid commercial driver’s license and be a member in good standing of WIT before September 30, 2017.
WIT President/CEO Ellen Voie, will hand over the keys to the winner on March 24, 2018 during the 9th annual “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel,” at the Mid-America Trucking Show at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
“We are thrilled to be able to give a truck to one of our members at our annual “Salute to Women Behind the Wheel,” said Voie. “I am especially looking forward to handing over the keys to the Volvo to allow one deserving member the chance of a lifetime, thanks to Arrow Truck Sales and their very generous donation.”
Jim Stevenson, Arrow Director of National Accounts, also serves on the Women In Trucking Board of Directors. “Arrow has long been supportive of equality and diversity efforts within the trucking industry," said Stevenson, "and we look at this as an opportunity to help a WIT member by providing a late model Volvo truck to support his or her success as an owner-operator.”
In addition to the Volvo, the recipient will receive products and services from these members:
National Truck Protection: One year/120k mile engine warranty ($2,950) and one year After Treatment system warranty ($995)
ATBS: One year “RumbleStrip Essentials” financial services ($700)
