The History of Memorial Day

06/01/2018

We hope you took a moment to honor our Military Veterans this past Memorial Day Weekend and that you had a safe and relaxing day with family and friends.

The History of Memorial Day

We also hope you will take a moment or two to honor our country’s symbol of Liberty and Freedom on the upcoming Flag Day.

Flag Day is celebrated on June 14th, and commemorates the adoption of the United States national flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777. The first flag of the United States consisted of thirteen alternating red and white stripes with thirteen white stars in a blue field representing the original thirteen colonies. Today the flag consists of 13 horizontal stripes, seven red alternating with six white. The stripes represent the original 13 colonies, the stars represent the 50 states of the union. The colors of the flag are symbolic as well: Red symbolizes Hardiness and Valor, White symbolizes Purity and Innocence and Blue represents Vigilance, Perseverance and Justice.

The week of June 10th is National Flag Week, so fly Old Glory on your house, your office building and your rig in honor of the military men and women who protect our flag and country!
