DOL Deputy Secretary Confirmed with ATA’s Strong Support

03/15/2025

Following the Senate’s confirmation of Keith Sonderling to be Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor, American Trucking Associations President & CEO Chris Spear released this statement:

“The new administration must address several challenges at DOL that will require senior leaders with deep knowledge of workforce issues, a firm grasp of policy, and experience running an agency.  Keith Sonderling exceeds all of these qualifications.  His extensive experience and expertise in issues vital to the trucking industry as well as the broader labor market will be enormously beneficial to U.S. workers.

“One of DOL’s top priorities should be to restore the rule published during the first Trump Administration that established a straightforward definition for independent contractors based on decades of case law.  ATA looks forward to working with Secretary Chavez-DeRemer and Deputy Secretary Sonderling to provide certainty to more than 350,000 truckers who choose the independent contractor model to make a living.”

Last month, ATA sent a letter to the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee to express full support for Sonderling's nomination.
